One phone call and one meeting was all it took for Scott Borchetta to offer Lauren Jenkins a record deal of a lifetime. Borchetta is the founder of Big Machine Records, one of the largest country music labels in the country. Big Machine Label Group’s client list includes Taylor Swift, Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw. It took no time for Jenkins to accept this offer and since that meeting in 2014 her life has been a whirlwind of creating music, performing every chance she got. She has since released an EP with Big Machine Label late last year titled, “Lauren Jenkins: The Nashville Sessions”. Jenkins is also working on her debut album that is set to be released in the coming months.
Jenkins was born in Texas but raised in California. During her childhood she learned to play guitar, was a competitive swimmer for ten years and enjoyed photography. As soon as she could drive she packed up her belongings in her car and set off to follow her dream. At fifteen, started performing at clubs up and down the east coast. At seventeen she finally took the leap and moved to NYC to study acting but never stopped performing at any venue that would have her, music always held her heart. During this time Jenkins was able to perform at famous clubs such as “The Bitter End” and “The Living Room”. It was also during these small performances that Jenkins caught the attention of Borchetta. Jenkins sound is best described as a blend of country and americana, if you are a fan of Miranda Lambert or Zac Brown Band this is the girl for you!
In 2016 she was named on Billboard Magazines “10 Hot Country Artists to Watch” list and she has not disappointed. Her EP, “Lauren Jenkins: The Nashville Sessions” , was named one of Queens of Country’s 20 Best Albums/EPs of 2016. The EP features six tracks, four of which were penned by Jenkins herself along with cowrites from some of countries greatest. Jenkins cowrites for her EP include Ross Copperman, Liz Rose and Shane McAnally. Through her EP Jenkins was able to break down barriers other artists were not and create a blend of both cheerful melodies and heartfelt lyrics. This EP truly features something for everyone! One of Jenkins most popular songs was her cover of “Looks That Kill”. Jenkins was able to take an original rock song and rework it into her own style and genre of music.
Jenkins also has a small online shop that can be accessed through her Facebook page. The shop features a few buttons with and a ring that she partnered with JoJo’s Rings to design. Jenkins has also been able to dominate the social media world with over 1500 followers on Twitter, over 4,000 followers on Instagram and more than 2,800 likes on her Facebook page, not bad for someone who has only released six songs. During her time with Big Machine Records Jenkins has had the opportunity to open for acts such as Lady Antebellum and Big & Rich.
Although music is Jenkins main focus she has been in a few films including the 2012 thriller “Deadline” and the 2011 family movie “Mud Dog Blues”.
As for the future, Jenkins debut Big Machine album is set to be released in 2017 and in the meantime she will be finishing up her touring with Delta Rae this September.
